How to record a RingCentral meeting on a Mac

RingCentral records meetings to its cloud and calls by admin setting. How each works and how to record a RingCentral meeting or call on a Mac with a transcript.

In short

RingCentral Video records meetings to RingCentral's cloud, and RingEX phone calls are recorded on demand or automatically as your admin sets up, with a notice to callers. To keep the recording and transcript on your Mac, tell everyone, then press Start in an app such as Notey.

RingCentral records in two places. Meetings in RingCentral Video are recorded to RingCentral's cloud. Phone calls on RingEX, its phone system, are recorded on demand or automatically, as your account admin has set up, and callers hear a notification when recording starts and stops. To keep a recording and transcript on your own Mac instead, tell everyone you are recording, then record with an app that captures your microphone and the Mac's audio, such as Notey. Notey does not notice calls in the RingCentral app, so you press Start.

RingCentral's product names and rules were checked on its own site and support centre on 25 September 2026. Its products are renamed from time to time; check RingCentral's call recording page for the current state. For the general version of this choice, see how to record a Zoom meeting on a Mac.

These steps use Notey, which records your microphone and the Mac's audio as two separate tracks.

Record a RingCentral meeting or call on your Mac

  1. Tell everyone first. Say you would like to record and why, and record only if they agree.
  2. Check Notey's permissions. The first time, allow the microphone and recording the Mac's audio. Notey never asks for Screen Recording.
  3. Use headphones. On speakers, your microphone hears the others too, and their words can end up on your side.
  4. Join the meeting or call. Use the RingCentral app for Mac, or RingCentral Video in your browser.
  5. Start the recording in Notey. In the RingCentral app, press Start. In Chrome, Safari, Arc or Edge, Notey's floating button asks once the browser uses the microphone; press Allow.
  6. Check both lanes move. The You lane for your voice, the Them lane for the others. A red dot and the elapsed time show while audio is kept.
  7. Press Stop when it ends. The transcript is ready; English meetings are improved on the Mac afterwards.

RingCentral's names

RingCentral's own site uses these names as of September 2026:

  • RingEX is the phone system.
  • The RingCentral app is the client for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, and in the browser at app.ringcentral.com. (RingCentral downloads)
  • RingCentral Video is the meetings product, included with RingEX. You can join from the app or from Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. (RingCentral Video)
  • AI features include a Personal AI Assistant that captures call notes, and AI Conversation Expert, which summarises and transcribes calls and meetings.

RingCentral's own recording

Meetings

RingCentral's Video page says meetings are recorded to the cloud, with AI-generated summaries, notes and transcripts, and live transcription in more than 15 languages. Who in a meeting may start a recording depends on your account's settings; check your admin's policy or RingCentral's support centre.

Phone calls

Per RingCentral's support site:

  • On-demand: "Users can manually record calls by pressing a button."
  • Automatic: "Recording starts at the beginning of each call and stops when the call ends."
  • Both are set up by an admin in the Admin Portal. "A notification plays to callers when the recording starts and stops." "If automatic recording is on, it takes priority, and on-demand recording won't be available." (RingCentral: turning on call recording)

If you see no record control in a call, recording has not been turned on for you. Ask your admin.

Why Notey does not notice the RingCentral app

Notey notices calls in Zoom, Teams, Slack and FaceTime, and in Chrome, Safari, Arc and Edge when the browser uses the microphone. The RingCentral app is not on that list, so no prompt appears; press Start. RingCentral Video in a supported browser is noticed as a browser call, named by the browser rather than by RingCentral. Why your notetaker didn't notice a call starting explains how detection works, and recording a meeting that runs in the browser covers the browser case.

Because the RingCentral app is not noticed, choices that depend on noticing a call, such as arming the next call, do not start a recording for it. Press Start when the call begins.

Telling people

RingCentral's phone recording plays its own notice. A recorder on your Mac does not, because it is not part of the call. Whether you need everyone's agreement depends on where you and they are, and phone calls are where all-party consent rules are most common. How to ask for consent to record has wording that works. This is general information, not legal advice.

If a side is missing from the recording

Most failed recordings of a RingCentral call fail in one of three ways, and each is quick to check before the next call:

  • Nothing on the Them lane. The call was not playing on this Mac, or Notey is not allowed to record the Mac's audio. Check the call's sound comes out of this Mac, and check the permission in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Allowing an app to record your Mac's audio shows where it is.
  • Nothing on the You lane. The microphone is muted at the system level, the wrong input is selected, or Notey is not allowed to use the microphone. Meeting recording silent or transcript empty goes through the checks.
  • A gap in the middle. Usually headphones connected or disconnected, or another microphone chosen, mid-call. Notey marks the meeting incomplete and says which side is missing and from when; it never fills the gap with silence. Why a recording is marked incomplete explains each reason.

What you get afterwards

  • A transcript made on your Mac, with your lines and theirs labelled from the two tracks; voices on the other side are told apart after the call.
  • The recording on your Mac, every line playable from its timestamp.
  • AI notes if you ask, with an account and a paid plan. Only transcript text is sent, never audio, and everything the AI wrote is labelled.

Frequently asked questions

Where does RingCentral save meeting recordings?

In the cloud. RingCentral's Video page says meetings are recorded to the cloud, with AI-generated summaries, notes and transcripts available. A recording made with Notey stays on your Mac.

Does the other person know when a RingCentral call is recorded?

With RingCentral's call recording, its support site says a notification plays to callers when recording starts and stops. A recorder on your Mac plays nothing, so you tell them yourself.

Does Notey notice RingCentral calls?

Not in the RingCentral desktop app, so press Start. If you join RingCentral Video in Chrome, Safari, Arc or Edge, Notey notices the call once the browser uses the microphone and asks.

Why is the record button missing in my RingCentral call?

Phone call recording is turned on by your account admin. RingCentral's support site says that if automatic recording is on, it takes priority and on-demand recording is not available.
